Pace Band Frequently Asked Questions

How are the paces for each different marathon determined?

We've created an algorithm that applies peer reviews research on the effects of running uphills, downhills, and flat terrain on energy usage and running pace. In addition, the algorithm uses the results from the analysis of thousands of splits of marathon runners who successfully reached their goals.

What are MarathonPaceBands.com Pace Bands made out of?

Each pace band is made out of a waterproof, tear-resistant, rigid synthetic paper. Each band is very lightweight and is held securely together by a small, reusable, secure snap. The snap ensures that the band will stay on your wrist the entire race, unlike the methods used other commercial or homemade pace bands.

Will the band fall apart or will the ink run if I get it wet?

No. Unlike other commercial bands or most homemade varieties, there is no lamination, no tape, and no paper that will get ruined if it gets wet. The band is made out of synthetic waterproof paper and the ink soaks directly into the paper, so it will not run. It will stand up to rain and sweat.

What size do I need?

Measure around your wrist to determine the size of your wrist in inches. The band size is the actual circumference it will fit. For example, if you had a drinking glass that is 7" around (circumference), a 7" pace band will fit around it exactly.

Fit is a personal preference. Some people like it loose and some people find it more comfortable with a snugger fit. Keep in mind is that the tighter the fit, the more difficult it may be to rotate the band while running in order to view all the splits - especially when your wrist gets wet. Also, if you are wearing long sleeves, consider whether you will wear the Pace Band under or over your sleeve.

I know the exact paces I want to run for each split. Is there a way to create Pace Bands with exactly the paces that I want?

Yes. Use the Custom Marathon Pace Band tool to create Pace Bands with any paces you want.

What if I'm not sure of my goal pace, but I still would like a Pace Band?

No problem. Order a Blank Pace Band and use a ball point pen to write in your paces whenever you want. The ball point pen ink will remain waterproof.

I just want the same pace for every mile or kilometer. How do I do that?

Just choose Even Pace for your pacing strategy and all the splits will be equal, regardless of the terrain of the course.
